Partner | Glenrothes

Court Department | Family Law

Jemma joined Innes Johnston in 2010 after completing her traineeship in Edinburgh. Jemma is a Partner in our Glenrothes Office and deals primarily with Family Law, Adults with Incapacity, Tenancy Disputes, Immigration matters and Private Client.

Jemma advises on all matters relating to family law including separation, divorce, residence/contact disputes, co-habitation matters, pre-nuptial agreements, civil partnerships, adoptions and protective remedies such as interdicts and exclusion orders. Jemma is keen to promote resolution in family law matters whenever possible and regularly attends at joint meetings with a view to maintaining amicable relations between parties, where possible at a stressful time. However, she also appreciates that sometimes court is the only option for resolving disputes. Jemma regularly appears at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court and Courts in neighbouring jurisdictions to deal with hearings associated with Family Law.

Jemma also collaborates with the firm’s letting department to ensure a full service for landlords in relation to tenancy agreements. Jemma works with our Lissa McGregor to ensure compliance with new regulations relating to tenancies and can offer a seamless service in the event that landlords need to take action to evict a tenant. Jemma has regularly appeared at court in relation to eviction actions.

Jemma and her team deal with a large number of Adults with Incapacity applications. The team are well versed in providing advice in relation to Guardianships, the procedures for applications and the role and responsibilities of a Guardian. Jemma has also acted as Financial Guardian in a number of cases where there are no family members to take on this role. Jemma is a curator for the Mental Health Tribunal in Scotland and is therefore knowledgeable in the area of Adults with Incapacity Law.

Jemma regularly advises on Wills and Powers of Attorney, Asset Preservation and also Estate and Tax Planning for death.

Jemma is one of the few Solicitors in Fife to give advice in relation to Immigration matters. Having trained at an Edinburgh firm specialising in Immigration, she is able to advise families in relation to immigration matters to include spouse applications for entry to the UK, extension of leave applications, settlement applications, citizens’ applications and applications for family members of European Nationals.
